Breathe in, breathe out...you just added CO2 to the air !
Carbon dioxide is an invisible, odorless gas everywhere in the air.It's called CO2 because it's composed of one Carbon atom and two Oxygen atoms.
It makes up less than 1% of our atmosphere.
Some CO2 comes from burning wood, gasoline, natural gas, oil, and coal.
But it was already here before people began using those fuels.
Volcanoes, forest fires, decaying plants, and oceans release CO2 all the time.
CO2 is produced by every breath you exhale !
All people and animals produce CO2 when breathing.
It's also what trees breathe in. In fact, trees can't live without CO2.
CO2 is one of the so-called "greenhouse" gases, along with water vapor and other gases.
It's a fact that CO2 helps our air retain the sun's heat. This is known as the Greenhouse Effect, a normal aspect of Earth's climate for thousands of years.
But many people fear rising CO2 levels are increasing the Greenhouse Effect to cause Global Warming.
And since we're still seeing some record low temperatures worldwide, the term "Global Warming" has now been replaced with "Climate Change". Environmentalists cite lower temperatures and record snowfalls as evidence of Climate Change, to be blamed on our CO2 emissions ! This is sheer Greenhouse Madness !
